The Chicago Bears have made a bevy of moves this offseason.
So far, Chicago has made several additions to the roster through free agency. They also traded the No. 1 overall pick to the Carolina Panthers for a load of draft picks.
The trade with Carolina also landed the Bears a No. 1 wide receiver in DJ Moore.
The expectation was always that Chicago would trade the No. 1 overall pick for a plethora of draft picks.
Getting a top wide receiver in the deal, however, wasn't expected.
Adding Moore to the deal made the trade a massive win for the Bears.
CBS Sports seemingly agrees as they ranked the addition of Moore as their third-best move of the offseason (behind the New York Jets' pending acquisition of Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers' signing of cornerback Cam Sutton).
From CBS Sports: Chicago desperately needed a true No. 1 target for QB Justin Fields. Now they have a bona fide top-10 talent. Moore will only be 26 in 2023, he's locked up through 2025 at $20M per year (appropriately ranked 10th among wideouts), and he should be primed for career marks after racking up 5,200 receiving yards in five years with middling Panthers QBs. The fact the Bears added him while netting an additional first-round pick, plus two seconds, in a trade down from the No. 1 pick is a cherry on top.
Not only does adding Moore to the roster give quarterback Justin Fields a much-needed offensive weapon, but it signals that Bears general manager Ryan Poles is committed to putting a winning product on the field.
The 2022 season was trying for Chicago fans — rebuilds are never fun while you're in them — but the fruits of a tough season are being revealed this offseason.
