The Chicago Bears have plenty of salary cap space ahead of free agency, ranking third in the NFL with around $78.3 million available to spend.

If the Bears want to make a huge splash in free agency, they have the means.

And that's part of the reason why Pro Football Focus named the Bears as a potential landing spot for Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones, who will be a free agent when the new league year begins in March.

From PFF: The Bears may not be looking to make this big of a splash, and general manager Ryan Poles has often prioritized spending on younger players, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t make this connection; the missing piece to Chicago’s ascending defense taking another step is a proven interior pass rusher.

The Chiefs would love to keep Chris Jones in Kansas City, but the two sides have been unable to come to an agreement on a longterm deal. And after another great year by Jones in 2023, it seems unlikely that anything changes this offseason.

Late last month, A to Z Sports projected that Jones will receive a four year deal worth $110 million with $65 million in guaranteed money and a year one cap hit of $13 million.

The Bears will likely take some big swings in free agency. Chicago, however, doesn't feel like an obvious landing spot for Jones, but it also won't be a shock if the Bears make a run at the five-time Pro Bowler.

This will be the first offseason that we see Chicago general manager Ryan Poles operate in free agency with a pocket full of cash, so we don't truly know how he'll approach some of the bigger names that are available.
