Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy suffered dislocated shoulder, weighing two options that could determine his 2025 season
Hoping for the best.
We now know a little more after Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy suffered a shoulder injury during the Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport confirmed that Worthy has sustained a dislocation in his shoulder, but the severity of it is still unknown.
“The Kansas City Chiefs in Brazil not only suffered a tough loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, but also likely lost one of their top weapons, at least for a period of time,” Rapoport said. “My understanding is Xavier Worthy, the electric receiver who suffered that injury right there to friendly fire, suffered a dislocated shoulder. It is unclear as of right now how much time he’s going to miss; still soliciting a second opinion. I’m told the most likely option is for him to be able to brace it up and return this season. However, test pending, and surgery is still, as of right now, an option.”
Chiefs not closing the door on potential return for Xavier Worthy in 2025
While it seems certain that Worthy will miss a chunk of time, the fact that a return this season is on the table is a positive thing. Just the threat of his speed will help open things up for other Chiefs pass catchers.
Worthy returning will depend on whether or not further damage can be made to his shoulder if he plays, and his pain tolerance. If his shoulder is bad enough that he needs surgery, Worthy will likely not return this season.
Not only is this an obvious blow to the Chiefs’ offense, but also to Worthy, who seemed poised to have a breakout season in 2025. He finished 2024 very strong, culminating in a 157-yard and two-touchdown performance in the Super Bowl. Worthy has developed into not just a deep threat, but an all-around complete receiver.
