Bengals at Browns Inactives: Two newest players on the roster will dress while a statement is made at wide receiver
The first inactives list of the season for Cincinnati.
The Cincinnati Bengals are getting ready for kickoff against the Cleveland Browns. Before the game begins, each team has released their inactive players list.
Here are the Bengals players who will not play against the Browns:
- WR Jermaine Burton
- DT Howard Cross III
- TE Cam Grandy
- DT McKinnley Jackson
- C Matt Lee
- CB Marco Wilson
Bengals playing Mitchell Tinsley over Jermaine Burton
With Burton inactive, Mitchell Tinlsey will assume the role as the fifth wide receiver against Cleveland. Burton suffered a knee injury late in training camp and re-injured it in the preseason finale, but was not listed on the injury report this week. He appears to be a healthy scratch with the former undrafted free agent Tinsley, who had a phenomenal preseason, getting the nod instead.
Burton was one of Cincinnati’s third-round picks from the 2024 NFL Draft. He underwhelmed as a rookie last season and was even held out from playing in two games. He’s listed as the backup kickoff and punt returner behind Charlie Jones, who’s also considered WR4.
Mike Pennel gets the nod over McKinnley Jackson
Jackson was the other third-rounder from last year’s draft class and will not play either. Mike Pennel, who was elevated off the practice squad Saturday, will be T.J. Slaton Jr.’s backup at nose tackle.
Pennel was signed to the practice squad this week with the intention of playing early, and he’ll get the first shot of the regular season.
Cincinnati’s backup center will not dress
Lee is arguably the biggest surprise inactive considering he’s Ted Karras’ backup at center. Starting right guard Lucas Patrick also has experience playing the position, so he figures to be the emergency backup should something happen to Karras.
With Lee inactive, both backup guards Jalen Rivers and Dalton Risner are dressing. Risner was signed to the roster last week and could have the chance to play in case of injuries.
