The 2023 season didn't go the way the Cincinnati Bengals envisioned, but they managed to create a historic silver lining in the end.
With a 31-14 victory over the Cleveland Browns, the Bengals conclude the season with a 9-8 record and become the first team in NFL history with that many wins to finish last in their division.
The 2023 AFC North is also the first division to have all three clubs finish over .500 since 1935!
The closest this came to happening recently was last year, when the Washington Commanders finished 8-8-1 as the last place team in the NFC East. The 17-game schedule definitely helps this become a reality, and the Bengals made it happen.
Cincinnati took full advantage of Cleveland resting almost all of its starters Sunday to give fans inside Paycor Stadium a blowout victory. Two touchdowns from running back Joe Mixon combined with two interceptions from the defense paved the way for a dominant four-quarter showing.
It was also the Bengals' first and only AFC North victory this season, ensuring they weren't swept by all of their biggest rivals for the first time since 2002.
Week 17's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs confirmed the Bengals' fate for the year. the 25-17 loss not only eliminated their playoff chances, but solidified them in the fourth place spot in the division after winning back-to-back AFC North titles the previous two years.
This win meant nothing more than pride, and they made some neat history as well.
