The first game of the Cincinnati Bengals' 2024 schedule has been revealed to be a Week 2 contest against the Kansas City Chiefs.
This is one of the NFL's marquee matchups, and it being revealed prior to the full schedule reveal is all the evidence one would need. It's also been a very close rivalry with four of the last five meetings being decided by three points.
Oddsmakers have pegged the Bengals to be underdogs by slightly more than a field goal this time around.
Bengals vs. Chiefs opening spread
DraftKings Sportsbook has the Bengals as four-point underdogs to the Chiefs for the Week 2 bout.
Of the six regular season games that have been officially revealed by the NFL, the Bengals are the second-biggest underdog in their respective matchup. Only the New York Jets face a larger spread as 5.5-point dogs to the San Francisco 49ers in the season's first Monday Night Football tilt.
Cincinnati is entirely used to be the underdog against Kansas City. They've had to overcome the spread in all five of the previous matchups since the 2021 season.
The most recent meeting had the Chiefs as 6.5-point favorites over the Jake Browning-led Bengals. The game ended in a 25-17 victory for Kansas City at home.
It's a bit curious as to why DraftKings believes Joe Burrow playing quarterback instead of Browning is only worth a 2.5-point shift in the spread, but outside of a few mishaps last year, the Chiefs are historically tough to beat at home with Patrick Mahomes at quarterback.
2024 will be a unique year for the Bengals as they look to bounce back off a down year filled with injuries. Regaining notoriety by beating the top teams will go a long way towards getting back on track.
Defeating the mighty Chiefs as an underdog, once again, will go a long way towards a successful season.

An early meeting between Cincinnati and Kansas City is quite the change up.
