The Cincinnati Bengals were in a tie with the Kansas City Chiefs late in the fourth quarter in the AFC Championship Game this past Sunday. On a 3rd and 4, Chiefs' quarterback Patrick Mahomes scrambled for a first down, but it was what happened immediately after that got the headlines.
Unfortunately for the Bengals, defensive end Joseph Ossai hit Mahomes out of bounds which forced a 15-yard unnecessary roughness call. On the very next play, the Chiefs kicked the game-winning field goal, booking their trip to the Super Bowl.
Ossai was seen distraught on the bench with his head in his hands after his mistake. His teammates did their best to console him. However, he still had to face the media after the game.
When Ossai went to do so, he wasn't alone, as Bengals' defensive tackle BJ Hill stood in solidarity with him, displaying what an awesome teammate he is.
Other players can learn from this. Hill, who is five years older than Ossai, took on the big brother role and didn't let Ossai feel like he was alone, and he was also quick to let reporters know that some of their questions weren't appropriate.
Hill's support of Ossai is an example of what being a team is all about. You win together and lose together, but no matter what, you stay together.
