The NFL announced their top 25 performance-based payouts, and a Cincinnati Bengals starter made the cut.
Left guard Cordell Volson earned a pay raise from the league for the second year in a row. He qualified for the second-highest pay out last year.
Volson ended with the fourth-highest distribution of $905,972 behind Former Baltimore Ravens guard John Simpson, Philadelphia Eagles safety Reid Blankenship, and Buffalo Bills tackle Spencer Brown.
Performance-based pay is a system that rewards players with low salaries who played a high number of snaps the previous season.
Volson made the list following his rookie season in 2022 when he repped 1,305 offensive snaps (including postseason) while earning just $705,000. In 2023, his offensive snap count was 1,087 and earned $870,000 as a base salary over the course of the season.
The added payment of $905,972 will be nearly the same as Volson's salary of $985,000 for the 2024 season.
Volson is entering his third season as the Bengals' starting left guard, and unless the Bengals are aggressive in the NFL Draft along the interior offensive line, he's expected to be uncontested at his position this Summer.
Should Volson play the entire 2024 season, he'll be a candidate to make next year's performance-based pay list as well.
Picking the best first round NFL Draft target for the Cincinnati Bengals after free agency
The Bengals should have a clear top prospect among their realistic options.
