The Cincinnati Bengals reached the Super Bowl in 2022 largely because of the play of quarterback Joe Burrow and rookie wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase.
Burrow and Chase picked up this season where they left off at LSU in 2019. After two years apart, the duo didn't miss a beat. In fact, they looked even better together in Cincinnati than they did at LSU.
Chase's 1,455 receiving yards in 2021 were a rookie record and a Bengals franchise record.
If Chase and Burrow were that good together in year one, how good can they be in year two and beyond?
One former first-round NFL draft pick thinks Burrow and Chase are on a Hall of Fame trajectory.
Former Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn, who played in the NFL for seven seasons, said this week that he thinks Burrow and Chase could be the next coming of legendary quarterback/wide receiver duo Joe Montana and Jerry Rice.
"I grew up watching a guy named Joe Montana throw to Jerry Rice, and when you watch those two (Burrow and Chase) together you get that sense for their chemistry," said Quinn. "The ability of Ja'Marr to do things with the football no matter where he catches it. And then Joe to be cool Joe under pressure and find a way to get him the football. I think that's what they're capable of…you're talking about arguably the greatest tandem, in my opinion, ever."
That's incredibly high praise for a duo that's only played one NFL season together. But what we saw in 2021 with Burrow and Chase was beyond incredible.
I know it's not wise to put huge expectations on young players. But I've seen nothing from Burrow and Chase that even remotely resembles a red flag. It's objectively hard to disagree with what Quinn said this week.
What a time to be a Bengals fan.
