The first time the Cincinnati Bengals went up against another team is also the first time quarterback Joe Burrow has been seen at practice with the team. Burrow arrived to the practice fields on a golf cart and was seen walking around with a compression sleeve covering his entire right leg. He wore all black with sunglasses and a bucket hat.

More importantly, he looked relatively fine in terms of how he was walking, and how he looked physically.

Let's think back to a year ago. Burrow had to get an emergency appendectomy right before training camp began and missed multiple weeks of practice. But lost practice time was just one drawback. Burrow also lost plenty of weight and muscle while being bed ridden in recovery.

The first time anyone outside of the team saw Burrow afterwards, he appeared frail and wasn't moving particularly well. He was clearly still weak and had plenty of work to do before getting back in playing shape.

While you can make the argument that Burrow's gait isn't completely normal (perhaps to be extra cautious), he looks miles better compared to this time last year.

An appendectomy and a strained calf are two completely different things. For the Bengals, the latter is a much better ailment to deal with several weeks out from the season starting. Burrow will not have to regain muscle throughout his entire body, he just needs enough time to let the calf heal completely.

There should be a lot more optimism in Burrow looking like his normal self in Week 1 this year compared to 2022. Burrow himself should be feeling pretty good considering he feared the worst when the injury occurred two weeks ago

The Bengals will take any and all positives they can get with a month before Week 1.
