Since the beginning of the decade, the Cincinnati Bengals have rarely been hesitant to support quarterback Joe Burrow to the best of their ability.
Promoting his position coach to offensive coordinator can be filed under this directive as well.
Dan Pitcher has gone from quarterbacks coach to replacing Brian Callahan as OC, and the franchise quarterback who's worked with him for four years couldn't be happier.
Good vibes surround Dan Pitcher's promotion
Burrow reaffirmed how he feels about Pitcher upon learning the news of Pitch's promotion.
"Our relationship is as good as it gets," Burrow told Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. "I wouldn't be the player I am today without him. He's been preparing for this for years. He takes his job very seriously and does it with a lot of passion."
It's been widely known that Burrow is a strong supporter of Pitcher, so keeping him in the building on top of giving him a greater role within the offense is a clear win for the franchise.
Head coach Zac Taylor began the offseason saying he didn't plan on making any changes to his staff. He didn't have a choice after Callahan took a chance on himself and became the head coach of the Tennessee Titans.
Going from Callahan to Pitcher is as close to maintaining continuity as Taylor could want.
"He has excelled in his job of helping develop our quarterbacks over the past five years," Taylor says. "He has been a top contributor to our scheme and that role will now increase."
The Bengals now need to replace Pitcher at QB coach. Expect that news to drop relatively soon.
Bengals will officially face former coach next season
