The Cincinnati Bengals have had to deal with some off-the-field issues with running back Joe Mixon that had many thinking the two sides would part ways.

On Friday, that particular speculation came to an end as Mixon had his deal restructured to rework the $9.4 million non-guaranteed base salary he had for 2023 and lowered his $12.79 million cap hit.

“Joe just agreed to a restructuring of his deal. His goal is to win a Super Bowl and play his career in Cincinnati and this is the best way to accomplish these goals," said Mixon’s agent Peter Schaffer.

Mixon has rushed for 5,378 yards and 40 touchdowns in six seasons. His best effort came in 2021 when he had career highs in yards (1,205) and touchdowns (13) and he received his only Pro Bowl nod. Last season, Mixon missed two games due to a concussion but still put up 814 yards and seven scores.

The former second-round pick is still facing a charge in a misdemeanor menacing case for allegedly pointing a gun at a woman while driving earlier this year which he pled not guilty to. Until that gets sorted out, at least Mixon knows he'll be in Cincinnati this season and the Bengals get some financial breathing room.
