Bengals close to signing veteran safety Nick Scott
Cincinnati looks to land a safety after losing two starters in free agency.
After losing both Jessie Bates III and Vonn Bell in the opening hours of legal tampering, the Cincinnati Bengals are in the process of adding a veteran safety to their secondary.
Per Pro Football Focus' Brad Speilberger, Cincinnati is working towards signing Nick Scott.
NFL reporter Aaron Wilson says the Los Angeles Rams are also hoping to re-sign Scott.
Scott, a fifth-year player in 2023, was a seventh-round draft pick in 2019 of the Los Angeles Rams and spent the first four years of his career in L.A. Scott was primarily a special teams player during his first two seasons and transitioned into a rotational defensive back during the Rams' Super Bowl season of 2021.
2022 was Scott's first year as a starer for the Rams. The 27-year old recorded 86 tackles and two interceptions in 984 snaps (16 starts).
Scott's best attribute is his tackling. It's been his most consistent trait since entering the league, and something the Bengals value highly from a safety. They'll need a sure tackler to replace Bell, who left for a three-year deal with the Carolina Panthers this week.
The Bengals are also reportedly visiting with Scott's former teammate, Taylor Rapp, so there's a possibility the Bengals swoop both safeties from Los Angeles to help soften the blow of Bates and Bell departing.
