Bengals petitioning NFL to change alternate helmet, uniform rule

The NFL has plenty of rules fans don't agree with, and one of the sillier ones requires teams to wear alternate helmets with alternate jerseys. When it comes to the Cincinnati Bengals, this forces them to wear their 2016 Color Rush uniforms with their White Bengal helmet they debuted in 2022 instead of their newer default white uniforms.
This isn't what the Bengals want to do, and they're taking action. According to the team's instagram, they're sending a letter to NFL Operations requesting to "reclassify" their white uniform combination in order to wear the White Bengal helmet with their standard all-white uniform.
Are the Bengals wanting the rule change for everyone, or are they trying to create an exception for themselves? We don't know without seeing the full letter and request, but it seems like the team is teasing progress.
When the Bengals initially teased and announced their alternate white helmets, fans immediately idolized players wearing them with their standard white jerseys, pants, and socks to create a clean all-white look. The black-on-white striping on the jersey matches the black-on-white striping on the helmet perfectly, but wearing one with the other wasn't possible last season when they wore them for two games. They had to don their old white and black alternate jersey based on the previous uniform design to match it.
The Bengals are scheduled to wear their White Bengal helmet in Week 3's Monday Night Football matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, the same night Chad Johnson and Boomer Esiason will be inducted into the Bengals Ring of Honor.
Will we get to see the newer and better white jerseys this time? Only time will tell.
