Bengals got some needed help outside of beating the Titans
Cincinnati got its sixth win of the season Sunday and has three more games to win for a potential trip to the playoffs. But winning out is only half the battle as 9-8 won't be enough to clinch a spot on its own. The Bengals still need losses from the Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, and Miami Dolphins.
While the Bengals got their win, the Dolphins helped out by losing to the Houston Texans. Miami fell 20-12 in Houston thanks to a game-sealing interception from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in the final minutes of the game.
The Dolphins are now tied with the Bengals at 6-8 but would hold a tiebreaker over the Bengals if they both finish the season at 9-8. The Bengals need one more loss from the Dolphins, who play the San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, and New York Jets to close out this year.
The Bengals also need two losses from the Colts and three from the Broncos. As this post is being written, those teams are facing each other in Week 15 and the Bengals' playoff chances are at 4% according to The Athletic. Barring a tie, Cincinnati will get even more help towards its playoff goal.
"We're not out of it yet," quarterback Joe Burrow said after the game. "We've got to play better than we did today going forward, but we need a lot of help from across the league, Teams beating teams that need to lose for us to get in. But as long as we keep controlling what we can control and keep winning it gives ourselves a chance."
Sunday will end about as well as it could've for Burrow and Cincinnati. The win in Nashville certainly wasn't how they drew it up, but it all counts the same as the back-half of December arrives.
