Over the last couple of weeks, there's been a narrative going around that Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow can't perform well against Cover 2 defenses.
The feeling is that when teams drop defenders into coverage, Burrow struggles. When they play Cover 0, Burrow flourishes.
Well, I think we can kiss that narrative goodbye after the Bengals' 27-15 win against the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night.
According to Pro Football Focus (via The Athletic's Paul Dehner Jr), Burrow was 7-for-7 for 83 yards on Thursday when the Dolphins played Cover 2.
This stat shows that folks were overreacting to a couple of tough games to start the season.
The soft coverages from opposing defenses provided a new challenge for Burrow. And it took him a bit to adjust. But it's clearly not going to be something that he struggles with all season.
Burrow is proving to be an elite quarterback. And the way kept this team together without panicking after an 0-2 start in two games where the Bengals were favored shows that his leadership qualities are already beyond elite.
There's obviously a lot of season left to be played, but the Bengals are back on track and they certainly appear to be a team that's once again capable of making a Super Bowl run.
