The Cincinnati Bengals (kinda) returned to practice Wednesday afternoon for a walkthrough following their Monday night victory. Quarterback Joe Burrow would've been a full participant had a practice actually occurred, and for good reason.
Burrow reiterated to reporters after the walkthrough that he made it out of Monday evening clear of any setbacks, and is confident in being able to move better next Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.
"It's going to continue to get better and I'll be able to move around more and more," Burrow said of his calf. "It's feeling really good. So I'm hoping on Sunday I'll be able to do a little more of it."
The Bengals desperately need him to be right. There are very few offenses doing worse right now than the one led by Burrow and his sore right calf. Cincinnati ranks 25th in Expected Points Added per play and 32nd, dead last, in success rate offensively.
A lot of that has to do with Burrow not playing like himself. The further he gets into the season without suffering another aggravation, the closer he'll get to returning to form.
"It'll get better each week I don't have a setback, so it was big to get through Monday without having any setbacks," Burrow said. "That means it'll be stronger this week. And if I get through this week without having any setbacks, I will be stronger than next week. So all you can do is rest it and take time, but I'm going to continue to play, continue to practice, and it'll get stronger throughout the year."
Much like the Bengals are building week after week, so is Burrow and his calf. The goal is for both to hit their stride when it really counts towards the end of the season.
