Cincinnati Bengals rookie defensive back Jordan Battle put it all out there on Friday night after Cincy's loss to the Green Bay Packers in the preseason opener.

Battle, a third round draft selection out of Alabama, told reporters after the game that Cincinnati's goal in 2023 is to be perfect.

And that's not a metaphor for playing clean football — Battle said the team has talked about their desire to go 20-0 this season.

"This is the time to get better in the preseason," said Battle after the 36-19 loss. "The first game is coming up and by the first game, we want to be perfect. That's the goal — to be perfect so we can have a perfect season. We talked about it as a team, about being 20-0. In order to do that, we have to make adjustments."

That's a lofty goal — especially considering the teams that are on the Bengals' schedule (the AFC North is a gauntlet, plus there are tough matchups against the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, and Minnesota Vikings).

It's nearly impossible to get through a season unblemished — there's a reason it hasn't happened in over 50 years (though the 2007 New England Patriots came incredibly close). There's simply too much talent in the NFL these days (especially in the AFC). Even the worst team in the league is capable of beating the best team in the league on any given Sunday.

Bengals fans have to love the mindset of this team, but I don't think anyone should expect Cincinnati to run the table in 2023. Those are simply unfair expectations.
