The first of many roster cuts for the Cincinnati Bengals came Friday morning as the team announced defensive end Tarell Basham has been waived.

Basham's departure takes the Bengals' active roster down to 88 players. They need to get to 53 by Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET.

Basham, who signed a one-year, $1.131 million contract with the Bengals in March, was originally a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He has bounced around quite a bit in his six years as a player. Now 29, He's played in 82 career games and has 70 tackles, 11 sacks, and five forced fumbles to his name for four different teams.

The Indianapolis Colts drafted Basham in 2017 and then waived him in the middle of the 2018 season before the New York Jets claimed him. Basham would last there for two years until the Dallas Cowboys signed him in the 2021 offseason. Dallas waived him during the 2022 season. The Tennessee Titans were his latest team, as he played five games last year for the two-toned blue.

Unfortunately for Basham, a lower body injury suffered on the second day of training camp hindered his chances of cracking the Bengals' 53-man roster. Basham didn't play in either of the team's two preseason games, and has missed ample practice time as well.

Cincinnati is likely to keep 10, or maybe even 11 defensive lineman by this time next week, and Basham just hadn't done enough to make the cut.
