Cincinnati Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown is firmly in the mix for the New York Jets general manager gig.
Per NFL Media's Tom Pelissero, the Jets are bringing in Brown for a second interview along with Denver Broncos assistant GM Darren Mougey.
Brown has been with the Bengals since the 2021 season. He spent that year working as a scout. 2024 was his third season as a senior personnel executive within the Bengals' personnel department.
Brown got his start in personnel work with the New England Patriots back in 2010. He's also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and the XFL's St. Louis Battlehawks. As a player, Brown was a former undrafted free agent cornerback out of UCLA who spent time on the Chicago Bears' practice squad in 2008. He also played a year in the UFL for the New York Sentinels.
It's of little surprise to see Brown vying for a promotion elsewhere. Last offseason, he was targeted by the Pats for their de facto GM position but turned down the request after the 2024 NFL Draft. Clearly, he's interested in working for their AFC East rival.
If Brown does land the job, the Bengals would actually be rewarded with a 2026 compensatory draft pick since Brown would be a minority hire for a GM position.
The Bengals don't technically employ a GM by title, though director of player personnel Duke Tobin handles those particular responsibilities and has a tight-knit staff underneath him including director of pro personnel Steven Radicevic and director of college scouting Mike Potts.
Brown has important influence within that department and would be sorely missed if he lands a promotion in New York. The Jets hired former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to be their head coach Wednesday.
We'll find out shortly if Brown will join Glenn to help rebuild New York City's AFC team.
Al Golden’s defensive staff with Bengals is already starting to come together according to latest report
Golden’s first new assistant has been revealed.
