The Cincinnati Bengals showed once again this weekend that they’re serious about being a Super Bowl contender.
For years, the narrative surrounding the Bengals has been that the franchise isn’t committed to winning.
I think we can officially put an end to that narrative after this off-season.
Cincinnati has done a tremendous job this off-season of addressing their deficiencies from last season — starting with the offensive line.
The Bengals signed three offensive linemen during free agency, completely revamping their offensive line.
And then on Saturday, on day three of the draft, Cincinnati added some competition to the offensive line by selecting Cordell Volson.
Volson is a versatile offensive lineman out of North Dakota State who is eager to compete.
“I’m a physical player that prides myself on being the hardest worker in the room,” said Volson after being drafted. “I’ll come in and work hard and play through the echo of the whistle."
It would’ve been easy for the Bengals to sign an offensive linemen or two this off-season and be done with it. Instead, they showed a true commitment to protecting quarterback Joe Burrow (who was sacked 70 total times last season).
This is what championship teams do. Reaching the Super Bowl wasn’t enough for the Bengals. They’re making the additions needed to keep from falling short again in 2022.
