The Cincinnati Bengals have several big-name players that are in line for contract extensions. Well, they took a step forward in getting those done on Thursday.

Cincinnati opened up more flexibility on their salary cap by signing edge rusher Trey Hendrickson to a one-year extension through the 2025 season.

Hendrickson came to the Bengals as an unrestricted free agent in 2021 on a four-year deal worth $60 million. Since arriving in Cincinnati, Hendrickson has outperformed that contract with 66 tackles, 22 sacks, 51 quarterback hits, 137 pressures, 81 hurries, six forced fumbles, and three pass breakups.

During the Bengals' magic carpet ride to the Super Bowl in 2021, Hendrickson was arguably the best defensive player as he racked up 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble in four games.

Hendrickson's pass-rush grades of 83.9 and 90.0 during his time with the Bengals are the best of his career per Pro FootballFocus. Also, his 85.0 defensive grade in 2022 was a career-best.

This was a well-earned extension for Hendrickson, and now the Bengals can switch gears to guys like quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receivers Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase and their future extensions.
