When the College Football Playoff National Champions are just 100 miles away, it makes perfect sense for the Cincinnati Bengals to see the players for themselves.
Cincinnati had director of player personnel Duke Tobin on site for Ohio State's pro day Wednesday where 17 Buckeyes worked out for NFL personnel.
One of them will be stopping by Paycor Stadium in the near future.
Ohio State's Jack Sawyer to visit with Bengals
Per Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors, Ohio State defensive end Jack Sawyer's first team visit will be with the Bengals.
Sawyer swinging by Cincinnati was very much expected. The 22-year old (turning 23 in May) is from Columbus and stayed in town to eventually bring home the Bucks' second CFP title. He also plays a position that's a bit lighter now for the Bengals than it was a month ago.
Former Ohio State DE and Cincy native Sam Hubbard retired earlier this month, opening the door for the Bengals to add another at the position. Joseph Ossai has since been re-signed, but depth is still an issue.
It would be extremely fitting for the Bengals to essentially replace Hubbard with another in-state product, and Sawyer himself is all for it.
“As an Ohio kid and Buckeye, I’d love to play for any of the Ohio NFL teams,” Sawyer said in January. “My pitch to them would be that I’m a hard-working guy who will give his all for his team.”
Hubbard was a third-round pick back in 2018 and Sawyer is also likely to come off the board around then. He's 6'4 and 260 pounds with 31.75" arms, which is under the Bengals' preferred threshold but comes with the territory of a Day 2 selection.
Because Sawyer is close by, this should count as a local visit instead of a Top 30 visit, which are of limited quantity.
