Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase is already one of the most popular athletes in the state of Ohio, but he should be even more of a fan favorite after a quote he dropped during an appearance on "Up and Adams" this week.
Chase was asked by host Kay Adams what he's most looking forward to in 2023.
The former LSU standout didn't say he wanted to catch a certain amount of passes or break any records. Instead, Chase made it clear that winning is all that matters to him.
"My biggest thing is just winning," said Chase. "I love to win. That's one thing about me. That's why I'm such a great team player. When Tee (Higgins) has a hot hand, I'm always in Tee's ear encouraging him to go crazy. Even when Joe (Burrow) sees it, I'm telling Joe 'keep feeding Tee, keep feeing Tee'. Just to keep his confidence up and making sure he keeps going."
Deserved or not, wide receivers often have a reputation for being divas. Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs, for example, was reportedly unhappy this offseason due to his role in Buffalo's offense and his desire to have a louder voice in play calling decisions.
Chase, meanwhile, just wants to win. And he understands that in some games that might mean that Higgins or even Tyler Boyd command more targets than he does. And Chase is just fine with that as long as it leads to wins for the Bengals.
Every team in the NFL has championship-caliber players. But not all of those players have a championship-caliber mindset.
Fortunately for Bengals fans, Chase, who has been competing for championships with Burrow since their days together at LSU, has the all-important championship mindset that it takes to win a Super Bowl.
