Just when everything was shaping up on offense for the Cincinnati Bengals, they receive one of the toughest blows imaginable. Wide Receiver Ja'Marr Chase is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a hip injury.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Chase originally injured his hip against the New Orleans Saints before aggravating it in the win over the Atlanta Falcons.
The blow comes after Chase put together his best two performances of the season, going for at least 130 receiving yards in each of the last two weeks.
The Bengals have chosen to live in a world in which the offense operates almost exclusively through dropbacks out of the shotgun formation. They're essentially handing the ball off only when the defense gives them very favorable looks to do so.
Otherwise, balance is an afterthought. The Bengals have been throwing the football and they don't care if you know it or not.
Chase's dominance everywhere he lines up is the single biggest reason (beyond Joe Burrow) why that's possible.
Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd are still a pretty solid duo of starting wide receivers, with Boyd dealing damage primarily from the slot.
But the Bengals' offense will be forced to undergo major adjustments moving forward.
