The Cincinnati Bengals could get some great news this week before they even take the field against the New England Patriots on Saturday.
Cincinnati beat Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday to improve to 10-4 on the season.
Thanks to the win, the Bengals could clinch a playoff berth this week.
Cincinnati clinches a playoff spot with a win/tie, or with a loss/tie by the New York Jets.
The Jets play the suddenly red-hot Jacksonville Jaguars (they've won three of their last four games) on Thursday night, meaning the Bengals could clinch a playoff spot before leaving Cincy for New England this week.
Cincinnati has climbed to the top of the AFC North after getting off to a slow start this season. Simply making the playoffs isn't the goal for the Bengals — they want to win the division and earn the top overall seed in the AFC (Cincy is currently a game behind the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills for the top seed in the AFC).
Still, clinching a playoff berth would be quite an accomplishment for the Bengals. It would be the first time since 2014 and 2015 that Cincinnati made the playoffs in back-to-back years.
The Bengals are poised to make some noise in the playoffs again this season. With the way they're playing over the last two months, Cincinnati has to be viewed as one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl in February.
