Cincinnati Bengals defensive back Mike Hilton may have delivered the best quote of the preseason on Monday.
Hilton was asked by reporters how he thinks opposing defenses will try to eliminate star wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase this season.
His response?
They can't.
"You can't — I'm going to be honest, you can't," said Hilton on Monday. "You can double-team him, do whatever you want. But he's just one of those guys that's naturally talented. We want to find ways to get him the football and be the playmaker he is."
Hilton also pointed out that Chase has improved this offseason by learning how to read defenses better.
"He's really learning how to read defenses on the fly," noted the veteran Bengals cornerback. " He's learning how to use his size and strength to his advantage."
"I expect a lot from him this season," added a grinning Hilton.
Chase already looked like one of the best players in the NFL as a rookie last year. The fact that he's improved this offseason is bad news for opposing NFL defenses.
This could be a fun season for the Bengals. Fans should buckle up — I have a feeling we're going to see a lot of Joe Burrow to Chase highlights in 2022.
