Joe Burrow's wrist injury is already bad enough news for the Cincinnati Bengals (5-5) and things could get even more serious after the loss to the Baltimore Ravens (8-3).
That's because of pregame footage showing Burrow's hand in some kind of sleeve/brace. The video garnered a lot of attention and had a lot of people talking about a potential injury. Then, there were others saying it was a mere iPad glove.
The key part about the injury topic is the fact Burrow wasn't listed on the Bengals injury report, at all, this week. So, the rabbit hole became a little bit deeper and it's likely to have some real-life reverberations.
The NFL will likely contact the Bengals about Burrow's injury
The NFL takes its injury reports seriously and could look into this. The league did just that with the Atlanta Falcons after head coach Arthur Smith revealed star running back Bijan Robinson had developed a migraine before the team's matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Robinson admitted he began feeling unwell the Saturday night before the game.
ESPN reported the league contacted the Falcons with injury report compliance questions the week after their win over the Bucs. Per the report, Atlanta's reasoning was because it "believed Robinson always was going to play the game and therefore did not need to be added to the injury report".
Typically, teams are fined if violations are discovered.
The Bengals also have a legit avenue to avoid any potential fine(s) and it's the hit Ravens EDGE Jadeveon Clowney put on Burrow in the first quarter. Burrow lands on his right wrist as Clowney takes him down and the sequence could certainly be the catalyst behind the injury. It's the perfect fallback for the Bengals.
But, the heavier question, obviously, is how much time Burrow is set to miss. For a 5-5 team playing in the NFL's hardest division – that's a development that will easily sink the season if the MVP candidate misses significant time.
