While one former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback in AJ McCarron continues to do well in the UFL, another signal-caller who used to call Cincinnati his home has a new home in the NFL
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that QB Jeff Driskel has signed with the Washington Commanders.
Driskel's first appearance in an NFL regular season was back in 2018. He was Andy Dalton's backup and came in for the final five games of the year after Dalton suffered torn ligaments in his thumb.
Cincinnati won just one of Driskel's five starts to close out 2018, and it remains the only victory of his career as a starting quarterback. He's since been with the Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals, and most recently, the Cleveland Browns.
Driskel's most recent appearance happened in this calendar year. He was the Browns' starter against the Bengals in Week 18 of the 2023 season. He went 13-26 for 166 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. The Bengals defeated the Browns, 31-14, to close the season out.
Washington is adding Driskel to its quarterback room as the team is likely to draft a top prospect at the position in this month's NFL Draft. They possess the 2nd pick in the first round, which is prime real estate for one of this year's best quarterback prospects.
However, if the team isn't ready to start Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, or whomever they select 2nd overall, Driskel could act as a bridge quarterback. He'll have to beat out Marcus Mariota and Jake Fromm for the role, but it's possible for the soon-to-be 31-year old to see the field again for his new team.
The Bengals are also scheduled to face the Commanders this upcoming season. If the matchup is early in the year when it would make sense to have the rookie watch and learn from the sidelines, Driskel could end up facing his former team once more.
