Signing cornerback Jalen Davis to the active roster opened up a spot on the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad, and that spot was filled by another at the same position.

Cincinnati added CB Jalen Kimber to its practice squad Tuesday, a day ahead of practice starting back up for Sunday’s showdown against the Buffalo Bills.

Kimber is a rookie who played at Georgia, Florida, and Penn State during his five years in college. He went undrafted earlier this year and signed a college free agent deal with the Tennessee Titans. He was waived during final cuts, and the only other team he’s been a part of is the next team on the Bengals’ schedule.

Jalen Kimber joins Bengals with fresh knowledge of Bills

Tennessee may’ve had Kimber for the offseason, but Buffalo had him on its practice squad for several weeks of the regular season. He was signed on Aug. 28 and first released on Sept. 23. The Bills added him back on Oct. 7 and released him for good on Oct. 14.

It could be useful to pick Kimber’s brain about the defense he practiced alongside for a total of 33 days.

Cincinnati now has the depth it needs in the defensive backfield to make it through the final five weeks of the season. Daijahn Anthony was recently activated off the Reserve/Injured list, which gives the Bengals five DBs behind the starters. Davis is now on the field for most of the game alongside Dax Hill and DJ Turner II at cornerback, while Geno Stone and Jordan Battle continue striving for consistency at safety.

While Kimber isn’t expected to play outside of injuries forcing him onto the field, he does have the profile that intrigues Cincinnati. He helped Georgia win a College Football Playoff National Championship and was exposed to quality coaching throughout his journey to the NFL.

The Bengals now have 15 players on their practice squad. Jaxson Kirkland was placed on the Reserve/Practice Squad list on Nov. 15 and would be their 16th member if healthy.
