The NFL isn’t letting Jalen Ramsey off the hook for altercation with Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase
Jalen Ramsey receives punishment from the NFL for striking Ja’Marr Chase.
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has already been suspended for Week 12 without pay for spitting on Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey, but Ramsey himself is paying the price for his involvement as well.
Ramsey has been fined $14,491 by the NFL for unsportsmanlike conduct. Ramsey struck Chase after video evidence showed the latter spit at him.
Ja’Marr Chase and Jalen Ramsey each received punishment from the NFL
Chase was caught spitting on Ramsey during the fourth quarter of Cincinnati’s 34-12 loss to Pittsburgh in Week 11.
Ramsey told reporters after the game that Chase spat on him, leading to an altercation that resulted in Ramsey getting disqualified for his second unsportsmanlike conduct penalty of the game. Chase told reporters he didn’t spit on Ramsey, but video evidence shown above proved Ramsey’s accusation was true.
“For a guy that has done everything we can to build our organization around, he’s been awesome,” Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said of Chase Monday. “Not perfect. I’m not perfect. Trust me, I made plenty of mistakes yesterday. People don’t see on camera. Unfortunately, this was. He’s going to have to own up for that. That will be part of his journey.”
Chase is forfeiting his game check of $448,333, along with a roster bonus payment of $58,823. Ramsey’s fine adds the total amount of money lost to $521,647 between the two players.
Ramsey was not suspended for his actions, but it makes sense why the NFL is docking him financially. Striking a player under any circumstances is grounds for a league fine.
Cincinnati is set to play without Chase and quarterback Joe Burrow against the 9-2 New England Patriots. A win would keep the Bengals’ slim playoff chances alive on life support.
Chase, who’s currently on the Suspended/Reserve list, can return to the roster on Monday.
