Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase told reporters exactly one week ago that he's always *bleeping* open. He meant it.

Chase broke the Bengals' franchise record for receptions in a game against the Arizona Cardinals. The mark to beat was 13, set by Carl Pickens almost exactly 25 years ago. Chase caught his 14th pass in the fourth quarter for his THIRD touchdown of the day. He would finish with 15 catches for 192 yards on the day as the Bengals won 34-20.

On a day when the Bengals' backs were up against the wall and Tee Higgins was sidelined with injury, the onus was placed on Chase to carry the passing game. Very few in the league are more qualified to take on that challenge than Chase. He entered the game with no touchdowns on the year. He's now on pace for about 10 by the time January's here.

It's almost too poetic it came in this game, the fifth on the year. Chase made headlines back in August saying that this was when quarterback Joe Burrow should've made his return from recovering from his calf injury. This was the first time we saw the version of Burrow everyone knows and loves.

The venue is special, too. State Farm Stadium may be the home of the Cardinals, but it's also the sight where LSU teammates Chase and Burrow connected in the 2019 Fiesta Bowl, the stage many point to as the beginning of their historic championship run a year later. Chase had six receptions for 93 yards and a score in the same end zone he found himself in four years later to make Bengals history.

Chase's historic outing was what the doctor ordered and then some. The Bengals will look to make a midseason surge with a 2-3 record much like the 2022 squad had to achieve.
