Ja’Marr Chase was just like any Bengals fan last week.

Cincinnati Bengals fans never feel nervous when Ja’Marr Chase has the ball in his hands. What about when Chase isn’t on the field? That’s a different story.

Chase served a one-game suspension last week, which had him watching the Bengals’ 20-26 loss to the New England Patriots at home.

Another one-score defeat for the fans to endure, and for Chase, he now knows what it’s like from this side of the television screen.

“It was just, I guess I could finally say I know how Cincinnati fans feel watching the game,” Chase told reporters Tuesday. “It was a little nerve wracking for me. Usually when I’m in the game, it’s not nerve wracking, but watching it was for me, yeah.”

Sunday’s loss was the first game Chase missed in almost exactly three years, when he missed four games in 2022 due to a hip injury. Never once has he had to sit out a game due to non-injury reasons, but spitting on Jalen Ramsey the week prior cost him a whole game check and opportunity to help his team win.

What was going through his mind during his suspension?

“Had so much time I was bored,” Chase said. “I mean, I wouldn’t know what to think about everything at that time, so it wasn’t really one thing I’m thinking about. I’m just trying to watch the game. Just worry about what I can control at the end of the day, that’s what I’m worried about for real.”

Chase is officially back and will play Thanksgiving night against the Baltimore Ravens. Tee Higgins will be out with a concussion, and Mitchell Tinsley will fill that role just like he did for Chase against New England. Joe Burrow will also be back for the first time since Week 2.

“I’m happy I got my friend back,” Chase said of Burrow’s incoming return. “I know he’s excited for it. Not a better game for him to come back and show what he could do.”

Bengals fans can be excited about watching Chase do what he does, instead of worrying alongside him watching it all unfold.
