Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase is not buying what everyone is now saying about Joe Burrow
Ja’Marr Chase isn’t here for any negative talk about Joe Burrow
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase heard some of Joe Burrow’s quotes from Wednesday’s press conference, he just didn’t think they were real.
“I thought this was AI. Did this really happen?” Chase told reporters Thursday.
Burrow’s comments about needing to have fun and his mind being full of many things related to football and nothing to do with the game has circulated the NFL media landscape. It’s even got ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting the league has its ears open about it.
“Other teams in the league took notice of that,” Schefter said on The Adam Schefter Podcast Thursday. “I can tell you that for a fact.”
Whatever Burrow was referring to in his presser, whatever it says about where his mind is about playing for the Bengals or the game in general, Chase isn’t buying any of the doomsday noise.
Ja’Marr Chase shares his personal opinion on Joe Burrow’s happiness
Once Chase was informed what his teammate talked about actually happened, he offered his take Burrow’s mental.
“At the end of the day, I see him the same every day,” Chase said of Burrow. “To me, he loves football, but that’s a him question. I can’t answer that for him.
“From what I see, I see the same person every day. He comes to work, and he loves work. He doesn’t look like he’s bummed to be here. The same every day.”
It’s only been a month since Burrow has returned practice with the rest of the Bengals, but Chase has been with him every year except one since 2018 going back to LSU. There isn’t a work relationship on the team with more history than their’s, and if anyone would know what flips the switches inside Burrow’s mind, it’s his long-time receiver.
But not even Chase knows, and he let everyone else know that.
“I can’t tell,” Chase said with a laugh. “”I’ll be honest, he smiles every day, like the narrative that y’all’s trying to paint on him right now, I don’t see it. At the end of the day, he’s the same person every day he comes to work. He loves work, he loves the guys in locker room. So he’s pretty positive.”
The beauty of players talking to the media is learning these tidbits from players who would only be seen on the playing field when the cameras are rolling. They can also speak their minds when things aren’t all right.
Burrow’s words definitely raised eyebrows for all kinds of reasons. Chase is here to say nothing’s changed too much with his QB. They’ll look to change what they can about Cincinnati’s playoff fate with a win on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.
