Ja’Marr Chase’s one-game suspension has been upheld.

Hearing officer and former NFL wide receiver Jordy Nelson has upheld Chase’s suspension, a day after the star wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals submitted an appeal.

Ja’Marr Chase will officially serve one-game suspension

Chase has been suspended without pay for Week 12’s game against the New England Patriots. His suspension is for spitting on Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey during the fourth quarter of Cincinnati’s 34-12 loss to Pittsburgh in Week 11.

Ramsey told reporters after the game Chase spat on him, leading to an altercation that resulted in Ramsey getting disqualified. Chase told reporters he didn’t spit on Ramsey, but video evidence appeared later on proving Ramsey’s words correct.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor recognized that what his star wideout did was wrong, but made it clear he still supports Chase through and through despite his mistake.

“For a guy that has done everything we can to build our organization around, he’s been awesome,” Taylor said of Chase. “Not perfect. I’m not perfect. Trust me, I made plenty of mistakes yesterday. People don’t see on camera. Unfortunately, this was. He’s going to have to own up for that. That will be part of his journey.”

Chase will be placed on the Reserved/Suspended list, and he will not count against the 53-man roster this week. He will forfeit his game check of $448,333, along with a roster bonus payment of $58,823, totaling $507,156 in cash he will miss out on. He can return to the roster Monday, Nov. 24.

Cincinnati was already a heavy underdog against New England this week, and Sunday’s game will not be any easier without Chase to catch passes. The Patriots will walk into Paycor Stadium with a 9-2 record, slated to be the No. 2 seed in the AFC if the postseason were to begin as of this posting.

The Bengals will be fighting to keep their season alive on life support, but Chase will have to be a bystander.
