Joe Burrow comes back online with a strong statement on the NFL’s latest controversial catch rulings
Joe Burrow wants you to learn the rules before arguing about what a catch is.
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow very rarely tweets (or posts for people who call Twitter “X”). He had one retweet throughout all of 2025. The guy isn’t logged in on the app, or just doesn’t find anything worth posting about.
The discourse surrounding the NFL’s latest controversial catch/no catch rulings made Burrow hit the send button for the first time in a while.
Burrow, referring to Denver Broncos safety Ja’Quan McMillian’s interception and Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Davante Adams’ reception, sounded off on those who have argued both calls over the past two days.
“The amount of ppl that don’t understand what a catch is in the rule book flabbergasts me,” Burrow wrote in his Monday afternoon post. “And it’s not the officials. The two plays yesterday were not difficult calls, and they got them both right.”
McMillian’s play was ruled an interception as Buffalo Bills WR Brandin Cooks did not secure the ball upon going to the ground. McMillian came away with possession right after Cooks made contact with the grass, and it was ruled a turnover instead of a catch. Adams’ catch appeared very similar, though he possessed the ball for longer despite having it stripped away from him right after he was taken to the ground.
Burrow used the word “yesterday,” but McMillian’s interception happened Saturday afternoon, and Adams’ reception happened Sunday evening. Regardless, this topic is not too far off from what the 29-year old has posted about in the past.
Joe Burrow has made his football thoughts known before online
It’s been about two years since Burrow was a semi-regular poster on Twitter/X, but his most (relatively) recent takes revolved around the game itself.
His last post of 2024 was a firm take regarding the need for two bye weeks in a hypothetical 18-game regular season schedule. A few months prior, he declared players should be able to taunt right after Baltimore Ravens WR Zay Flowers was penalized for taunting. Go back a couple more years and you’ll find his thoughts on NIL being legalized in college football.
Burrow cares about the sport, he just doesn’t always announce it. It could be two weeks, two months, or two years until he posts again. Odds are it’ll be about ball, or telling you to learn the rules.
