Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s toe injury is believed to be turf toe.

Per FOX19’s Jeremy Rauch, Burrow is expected to be out “several weeks.”

Burrow suffered the injury in the second quarter of Cincinnati’s Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 28-year old quarterback was sacked for the second time on the day, and Jaguars defensive tackle Arik Armstead landed on Burrow’s left foot.

Turf toe is when the joint in your big toe gets stretched or torn. Per Rauch’s report, Burrow is dealing with torn ligaments, which makes his recovery timeline complicated.

How long will Joe Burrow be out with turf toe?

“Several weeks” for Burrow could be anywhere from two weeks to a few months. If he needs torn ligaments to heal, it may be closer to a month or longer rather than the more optimistic prognosis.

There are still 15 games remaining on the Bengals’ schedule, so in all likelihood, Burrow’s injury probably won’t end his season entirely. He’s dealt with two of those already in his career as his rookie season was ended with a torn ACL in 202o, and his 2023 campaign was cut short with torn ligaments in his right wrist.

That said, this is yet another major injury Burrow has suffered for the Bengals, and another that was the result of poor pass blocking in front of him. Burrow has taken five sacks through not even six full quarters of play this year.

Cincinnati managed to win without Burrow this week as backup QB Jake Browning put together a gutsy performance in the second half. Browning threw for 241 yards, two touchdowns, and a game-winning QB sneak to go with three interceptions as well.

Browning is going to be the guy going forward with Burrow on the mend. It’s just a matter of how long that will be.
