Bengals assistant coach continues his climb up the ranks to a position that bodes well for his future
Another internal promotion for a Bengals coach who will impact the most important position.
The Cincinnati Bengals have officially added one new member to their coaching staff ahead of the 2026 league year.
Davis Koetter has officially been named as the new assistant wide receivers coach and will work under receivers coach Troy Walters. Koetter was reported to be hired at the beginning of the month, and his arrival indicated minor changes were being made to the rest of the staff.
This was proven true, as Koetter will take the spot Jordan Salkin held during the 2025 season. Salkin will now take a new role, and it bodes well for him and his coaching career.
Jordan Salkin becomes Bengals’ new assistant quarterbacks coach
Salkin, who turns 34 this year, has been with Cincinnati since 2024 when he was hired as an offensive assistant. He began his coaching career all the way back in 2014 when he was an assistant for James Madison University. He made other collegiate stops at Rutgers, Texas, and New Mexico before making the first NFL leap in 2021 as an assistant with the Miami Dolphins. He spent two more years at the college level with North Carolina and Oregon in 2022 and 2023, respectively, before coming back to the league with the Bengals.
Most of Salkin’s roles were very minor, quality control and graduate assistant duties, with the exception of his 2023 stint in Oregon where he was the QB coach. It makes sense why a few years later, Cincinnati has him working with the position once again.
The assistant QB coach spot was previously held by Fredi Knighten, who’s now no longer listed with the rest of the Bengals’ coaching staff.
Salkin taking this role is a notable step for him.
Progressing as an assistant coach on the offensive side of the ball is easiest to do when you influence the QB position. Cincinnati’s last two offensive coordinators were previously QB coaches, and the job in general leads to promotions to OC and, with luck, head-coaching gigs in the future.
Salkin will begin assisting QB coach Brad Kragthorpe, who’s held the position since Dan Pitcher was promoted in 2024. Should the Bengals’ offense continue producing among the best in the NFL, it’ll only make everyone involved, including Salkin, look better.
