When the 2024 season gets underway in seven months, the Kansas City Chiefs will be looking to do something no NFL team has ever accomplished — win three Super Bowls in a row.
The Chiefs, despite what the Vegas odds may say, will be the favorites to win it all next season. They're the kings of the sport right now and everyone will be gunning for them.
And the Cincinnati Bengals, a team that's a bit of an afterthought outside of Ohio thanks to a down season that was mostly the result some of some terrible injury luck, will be one of the teams best positioned to interrupt the Chiefs' bid for a three-peat.
Undisputed's Skip Bayless agrees.
Bayless, one of the loudest voices in the sport, suggested on Monday that Burrow and the Bengals are the one team that can take down Kansas City — assuming Cincinnati doesn't run into bad injury luck again.
"If Joe Burrow stays healthy….just the same way that Mahomes has had San Francisco's number, Joe Burrow's had Mahomes' number," said Bayless. "It doesn't matter to me who you get. As long as he's got Ja'Marr Chase, they are serious business. When he (Burrow) was healthy this year — remember, they went to San Francisco and put on a clinic out there — he is capable of going into Arrowhead and winning because I saw him do it in an AFC Championship game. He's capable of going up to Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills) and doing it because I saw him do it in a playoff game."
Health will be the key for the Bengals — Burrow's health, specifically. Cincy has the defense. They have their defensive coordinator for another season. And they're going to have Chase. Even without Higgins, this will be one of the most dangerous teams in the AFC.
And the Bengals, perhaps most importantly, are the one team that can match the bravado of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. The Bengals won't be intimidated. And they won't be in awe of the Chiefs — they already know they can beat them on the biggest stage possible.
The Bengals, a team that will certainly have a chip on its shoulder next season, have all the ingredients to make an impressive run in 2024.
