The Cincinnati Bengals made some important moves during the early stages of free agency.
Landing Orlando Brown Jr to play left tackle, for example, was one of the biggest moves of the NFL offseason.
(Signing a proven left tackle is a big deal…stealing him from a rival like the Kansas City Chiefs makes the deal even sweeter.).
There's an under-the-radar move, however, that Cincinnati made this offseason that ESPN really likes.
ESPN recently named each NFL team's top under-the-radar move this offseason and they went another offensive lineman signing that the Bengals made.
The addition of Cody Ford was Cincinnati's top under-the-radar move this offseason according to ESPN.
From ESPN: Cincinnati's depth along the offensive line was tested in the postseason, with three backups playing in the AFC title loss to Kansas City. Adding Ford, who will be an offensive tackle, at the very least upgrades the depth in a room that now includes left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. Ford could emerge as a potential swing tackle option or even be in the mix as a potential right tackle, depending on what happens with Jonah Williams.
Ford is a perfect fit for the Bengals. He's an insurance policy in case Jonah Williams, who will flip to right tackle if he stays with Cincy, is traded. Ford could also be the starter at right tackle if the Bengals draft an offensive tackle but don't want to throw him out there in Week One.
Brown and Ford, by the way, were teammates at Oklahoma, which should provide some valuable continuity for the Bengals' offensive line in 2023.
