Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has a lot of influence on the offense, front office decisions, and the way coaches coach.

We learned on Tuesday, though, that Burrow's influence only goes so far.

Cincinnati released defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin on Tuesday.

Shelvin, a fourth-round selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, was teammates with Burrow at LSU.

You might recall the famous photo of Shelvin and Burrow after the Tigers beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 2019.

When the Bengals drafted Shelvin in 2021, it was a great story. Burrow was able to reunite with another one of his former LSU teammates in the NFL.

But Shelvin's status as Burrow's former teammate/person who hoists him after a huge win just wasn't enough for the defensive tackle to secure a roster spot in Cincy.

Shelvin, unfortunately, never quite lived up to expectations during his short time in Cincinnati. The Bengals had other defensive tackle options move ahead of Shelvin on the depth chart during the preseason. And with NFL teams not keeping as many interior defensive linemen these days, the writing was on the wall that Shelvin could be on his way out.

The only thing that could've kept Shelvin on the roster was likely Burrow. But apparently even Burrow's influence has limits.
