Noah Fant, born in Nebraska and a student-athlete at Iowa for three years, is a Midwestern guy at heart. Living out under the Rocky Mountains in Denver and in the Pacific Northwest in Seattle for the last six years hasn’t changed that.

Getting drafted and traded took Fant to those places. His next stop was his decision. Major cities like New Orleans and Miami were in the picture to provide the former first-round pick with further changes of pace.

But when an opportunity to play in the Midwest again entered the picture, the Cincinnati Bengals had a direct route to Fant’s heart. It is where the home is, after all.

Fant told WLWT’s Jaron May Cincinnati already feels like the first 21 years of his life in the heartland.

“Cincinnati is true, like Midwest living,” Fant said. “And that’s where I grew up, in Omaha, and then went to college in Iowa. So it gives me a little sense of home, a little bit. It’s a little bit like Midwest living, so I feel right at home and excited to keep living here and have a great season.”

You weren’t going to get the answer in the Bayou or South Florida.

Fant has yet to play for his new team outside of practice. His next chance is next Monday night against the Washington Commanders, a game in which Joe Burrow and the starters could play the entire first half.

“Yeah, I mean we haven’t talked about any of that yet, we’ve just been practicing, just trying to get better,” Fant said. “I’m sure whatever that looks like, I’m going to be there, be available, and be and do what I’m asked to do, so we’ll see what that looks like, but I’m just trying to take with one practice at a time.”

Even if he doesn’t play until the regular season, Fant’s first game is guaranteed to be in Ohio. Week 1 is a road game up in Cleveland with the home-opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on tap for Week 2.
