Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes confirmed what all Cincinnati Bengals fans likely knew after Sunday night's loss in the AFC Championship game, but it still won't be easy to hear.

While meeting with reporters after the Chiefs' 23-20 win in Arrowhead Stadium, Mahomes confirmed that Cincinnati's "trash talk" all week had Kansas City more motivated than they've ever been before.

Mahomes said that Kansas City's locker room was as pumped as he's ever seen it. He pointed out that the "Burrowhead" and "they gotta play us" comments motivated the Chiefs. Mahomes also noted that Cincinnati's mayor went after him.

Cincinnati's trash talk essentially backfired on them. Kansas City was already motivated — every team in the playoffs is motivated — but the Bengals' talk about "Burrwhead" and the other comments only intensified that motivation for the Chiefs.

Trash talk can be a beautiful thing. But the Bengals misused it this week. Instead of motivating themselves, they motivated the Chiefs. It went from feeling slighted to slighting the team they were playing. And that's not the point of well-executed trash talk.

The Bengals will learn from it. They won't change who they are, but they'll utilize it better moving forward. It was just a tough lesson to learn in the AFC championship game.
