With 10 wins in 2021, and 12 wins in 2022 despite playing in just 16 games, the Cincinnati Bengals have re-entered the conversation regarding the best teams in the NFL. And their winning ways aren't expected to stop this year.
The Bengals are one of five teams with a projected win total of at least 10. Sitting at 11.5, they’re accompanied by the Kansas City Chiefs (11.5), Philadelphia Eagles (11.5), Buffalo Bills (10.5), and San Francisco 49ers (10.5).
Those are all of the current Super Bowl favorites for this season, and the Bengals are looking like a team that belongs.
Pro Football Focus' latest 2023 NFL season simulation has the Bengals finishing with the most wins this season. PFF's simulation has the Bengals reaching a league-high 11.36 wins and drafting 32nd overall, which is due to their win total. They did not simulate the playoffs.
The Chiefs ended up right behind the Bengals at 11.17 wins, which would set up another potential AFC Championship rematch between the two powerhouses. They're the only two teams to eclipse 11 wins in PFF's sim.
Obviously, 11.36 wins is not possible as it is not a whole number, but this means the Bengals have the best chance to reach the highest projected win total any team has been given this offseason.
Roster strength and schedules factor into how the simulation fares, and the Bengals should feel pretty good about the state of their team heading into the season. The AFC North will be as tough as ever, and the Chiefs aren't going away any time soon, but neither are the Bengals for that matter.
Getting the edge over the Chiefs in the regular season would also mean a playoff matchup between both teams would take place in Cincinnati instead of Kansas City. The Bengals have yet to lose to Patrick Mahomes' team at home.
Hosting the defending Super Bowl winners in January could be the difference to becoming world champions for the first time in franchise history.
