The Cincinnati Bengals have three wide receivers on the roster they can count on — Ja'Marr Chase, Tyler Boyd, and Tee Higgins.

Those three wide receivers accounted for 3,374 receiving yards and 24 receiving touchdowns last season.

Cincinnati is seemingly set at wide receiver, right?

Well, kinda.

The Bengals have their three starting wide receivers locked in. But Cincinnati doesn't have much depth behind those three wide receivers.

And the Bengals absolutely need wide receiver depth.

That's because Cincinnati's offense often utilizes three wide receiver sets.

According to NFL Next Gen Stats (via ESPN), the Bengals ran the third-fewest offensive sets of fewer than three wide receivers last season.

If Cincinnati loses one of three starting wide receivers, it completely changes the offense. And that's not a path the Bengals need to be traveling down in 2022.

That's why I think Cincinnati should sign free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

Beckham started the 2021 season with the Cleveland Browns, but he was released late in the season and ended up signing with the Los Angeles Rams.

The former LSU star proved to be a valuable player for Los Angeles while playing a key role in the Rams' Super Bowl run (seemingly proving that he wasn't the problem in Cleveland).

Beckham, however, tore his ACL in the Rams' Super Bowl win over the Bengals, which is likely the reason the 29-year-old is still a free agent.

Signing Beckham to a one-year deal would be perfect for Cincinnati. OBJ probably won't return to the field until late November at the earliest. Having Beckham available (and fresh) for another Super Bowl run would be a nice luxury for Cincinnati. And it would also give the Bengals some insurance in case one of their starting wide receivers gets banged up late in the season.

There's also the LSU connection between Beckham and Chase/Joe Burrow/La'el Collins/Tyler Shelvin.

Beckham and Collins were teammates in Baton Rouge. And Beckham obviously knows Burrow, Chase and Shelvin quite well (remember, OBJ was on the field in New Orleans handing out cash to Tigers players after LSU beat Clemson in the National Championship Game in early 2020).

The Bengals don't necessarily need Beckham, but this is the type of bold free agent signing that could pay major dividends for the franchise.
