Tee Higgins is back in the concussion protocol after reporting concussion symptoms following the Cincinnati Bengals’ loss to the Buffalo Bills in NFL Week 14.

Head coach Zac Taylor confirmed to reporters Higgins, who suffered a concussion two weeks prior against the New England Patriots, will go back through the protocol he just cleared late last week.

“[Higgins] did this morning and last night, have symptoms again, so we will put him back in the protocol,” Taylor said Monday.

Higgins told Taylor he felt fine during the game despite some of the hits he took and instances his helmet banged against the Buffalo turf. It wasn’t until after the game when he reported showing symptoms of a concussion.

Now that he’s back in the concussion protocol for the second time in two weeks, there’s a real possibility he could miss another game.

Tee Higgins’ status is now up in the air for Bengals vs. Ravens

Higgins was unable to play against the Baltimore Ravens on Thanksgiving night back in Week 13 as the game was played only four days after he suffered his first concussion on Nov. 23. There wasn’t enough time for him to pass the required testing and practice.

He’ll have more time this week as Cincinnati’s second matchup against Baltimore is not until Sunday, but it may still be cutting it close.

Higgins hauled in six receptions for 92 yards and two touchdowns in Buffalo, but was seen visibly shaken after falling to the ground multiple times throughout the game. The NFL and NFLPA released a joint statement regarding what happened with the 26-year old wideout during the afternoon:

“Tee Higgins was evaluated twice in game and cleared to return. After the game, in discussion with club medical personnel as part of a postgame evaluation, he notified the team he was experiencing symptoms and was immediately placed in the concussion protocol.”

That Higgins was able to come back twice during the game and even finish it was surprising, but he couldn’t have done so without getting cleared by an independent specialist first. Taylor and the Bengals could only put him back out there if that clearance was first given.

Expect to see Higgins’ name on the Bengals’ injury reports this week, and his game status may not be fully determined until Friday.
