Injuries have plagued what looks to be Tee Higgins' final year as a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals. The fifth-year wideout has only played in six of Cincinnati's 11 contests this season thanks to two separate injuries.
To make matters worse, both injuries occurred in practice leading up to games. Like the great Allen Iverson once said, we talkin' about practice, man!
But Higgins is healthy now and can put together a 12-game season if he stays available for the remainder of the year. His team put together a plan to ensure that happens.
During his weekly presser, head coach Zac Taylor revealed that Higgins will be a limited participant for some practices to best avoid future injury issues leading up to weekends.
"Tee's good, so we just got a plan for Tee moving forward," Taylor said of Higgins. "You'll see him limited some days, more with the trainers some days. He's in a great place right now, we're just trying to make sure it stays that way. Sometimes don't read too much into what happens on a Wednesday practice with Tee. He's in great shape."
Taylor confirmed that Higgins is indeed healthy now and isn't missing any practice time due to an existing injury. The plan is to avoid future problems.
"Just trying to be proactive."
Higgins' first injury of the year came right before Week 1 when he tweaked his hamstring three days before the season-opener. He ended up missing the first two games of the year. He then suffered a quad injury the Friday before Cincinnati's Week 8 game against the Philadelphia Eagles and missed the next three games. The Bengals were 1-4 while playing without their stud receiver.
Winning just one more of those games would have the Bengals in a better spot towards making the playoffs, but they can't go back in time to implement this practice plan in retrospect. With luck, Higgins avoids the injury bug for the conclusion of the season and the Bengals can get back into the postseason race.
