Zac Taylor offers injury updates for Trey Hendrickson, Mike Gesicki, and other Bengals players ahead of TNF game against Steelers
The Bengals have a few players who need to heal quickly before a Thursday night showdown against the Steelers.
Zac Taylor and the Cincinnati Bengals only have a few days until their next game. Cincinnati hosts the Pittsburgh Steelers on “Thursday Night Football” to start Week 7 for the NFL.
The Bengals will not have all the players they had during Sunday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. A handful of starters suffered injuries during the game, and at least one of them will not play Thursday night.
Trey Hendrickson injury update
Hendrickson has a chance to suit up this week after suffering a back injury in Green Bay. Hendrickson left the game right before halftime.
“We’ll see,” Taylor told reporters Monday afternoon. “Early in the week, we’ll have to give it kind of a day-to-day listing here and see where they’re at.”
Hendrickson, who has four sacks on the season, has not missed a game since 2022. He’s been one of the team’s most durable players since joining back in 2021. He figures to be a game-time decision depending on how much he’s able to practice in a short week.
Mike Gesicki injury update
Gesicki, who suffered a pectoral injury after only playing two snaps Sunday, will not play against Pittsburgh. Taylor confirmed the starting tight end will be out for this week, and potentially longer.
“He’ll be out for this game for sure,” Taylor said. “Get more information now, he’s got a [pectoral injury]. It’s going to be a while. We’ll just see what that means.”
Pectoral tears can oftentimes be season-ending injuries. Gesicki’s full diagnosis hasn’t been reported yet, but he’s confirmed to be out for this week at the very least. He has eight receptions for 61 yards in six games this year.
Other injury updates
Starting right tackle Amarius Mims missed nine snaps on Sunday, but Taylor confirmed he’ll be fine to play Thursday.
“Amarius should be good to go,” Taylor said.
Defensive end Shemar Stewart, on the other hand, hasn’t played since Week 2 with an ankle injury. It’s just a short week of practice, but Taylor is not counting out his rookie first-round pick from returning Thursday.
“Shemar’s progressing back,” Taylor said. “So we’ll get a chance to — we don’t do a lot of full speed this week — but I’m optimistic.”
