Three teams in the AFC North are currently operating with backup quarterbacks and the division remains strong.
When it comes to the best division in football, it resides in the AFC North. Entering Week 17 of the NFL season, the entire division was still alive for the playoffs.
The worst team in the division is the Cincinnati Bengals at 8-8, so that means there is not a team with a losing record of the four.
For many years, you could count on the Browns finding themselves in last place with less than six wins. This season Cleveland is locked into the second spot in the division. They can’t win the division because the Baltimore Ravens have that and the No. 1 seed is locked up.
Steelers come into the final week of the season at 9-7 and still alive for a playoff spot.
Cleveland has started four different quarterbacks this season, Joe Burrow was lost for the year by the Bengals, and Kenny Pickett didn’t take a second-year jump like Pittsburgh had hoped. Still, it is the only division in football without a team that has a winning record.
That is a testament to coaching in the division. I’d be confident in saying it would be hard to find a division with four better coaches than the AFC North. Coach of the Year will likely reside in Cleveland for the job that Kevin Stefanski has done.
It’ll likely be two but could be three teams from the north that find themselves in the postseason. It’s only fitting for the in-season success these teams have found.
Cleveland and Baltimore are both battle tested. They’ve played some tough teams and beat some tough teams. They’re the two top teams in the toughest division in football. That’ll all benefit them over the next few weeks.
