Browns GM Andrew Berry has already given the scoop on what Cleveland’s free agency plans are going to be in Todd Monken’s first year
Free agency is around the corner, and Cleveland Browns GM Andrew Berry revealed what the team is looking for.
The Cleveland Browns ushered in a new era Tuesday, introducing Todd Monken as the head coach.
Cleveland, coming off a 5-12 season, faces a big offseason, and Monken being hired as the head coach was just one part.
Roster building is around the corner with free agency and then the NFL draft. If the Browns want to turn things around, that’s where it will happen.
Andrew Berry reveals the kind of free agent moves the Browns will make
“We’re not necessarily going to be in the phase where we’re going to sign, you know, a bunch of mid-30s veterans to like put us over the top, so to speak,” Berry said on Tuesday. “That doesn’t mean that we’re not going to participate in free agency or participate with veteran players.”
“But the reality of having, you know, 10 selections, eight that are in the top 150, and already a very young defense, and with pretty heavy investment on offense, in most worlds, we’re probably going to be one of the younger teams in the league.”
Cleveland had one of the youngest offenses in the NFL last year, and it would have been even younger if it had removed players like Joel Bitonio and Jack Conklin. The Browns could have as many as four or five new starters along the offensive line in 2026, which is one area where they could be much younger.
The Browns aren’t in a spot to sign veteran players 30+ years old to put them over the top. If the Browns can figure out the quarterback position, the rest will simply fall into place with an elite defense. Berry’s comments sound a lot like a team that will be looking for second-contract players with potential still there.
Having two first-round picks is a major bonus for the Browns this offseason. Cleveland has a chance to make some major additions to this team through the draft and free agency.
The free agency signing period doesn’t begin until Wednesday, March 11, but we already have a strong idea of the types of players the Browns will be targeting.
